Danielle Meuwly
Swiss Ambassador to Nepal
Danielle Meuwly, born 1966, originally from Fribourg, Switzerland, holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Fribourg and a degree in advanced European studies from the College of Europe.
In 1997, she joined the International Economic Relations Division at the Federal Office for Foreign Economic Affairs. At the same time, from 1999 to 2001, Ms. Meuwly continued to teach at the University of Fribourg. In 2002, she joined the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) as Deputy Head leading the Macroeconomic Support section of the Economic Cooperation and Development service center. Ms. Meuwly was appointed as Personal Advisor to Federal Councilor Joseph Deiss for his presidential year in 2004. She was then seconded from 2005 to 2009 to the office of the Executive Director for Switzerland at the World Bank in Washington DC as Principal Advisor. In March 2009, Ms. Meuwly was transferred to the Permanent Delegation to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris as a delegate to the Development Assistance Committee (DAC), a committee of which she assumed the vice-presidency. In September 2010, Ms. Meuwly joined the cabinet of Joseph Deiss, then President of the UN General Assembly in New York, as Personal Adviser. From November 2011, still on secondment from SECO, Ms. Meuwly held the position of Deputy Head of Cooperation in Tunis.
In September 2015, Ms. Meuwly joined the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and was appointed as Deputy Head of Mission in Bishkek. In 2019, she was appointed as Head of Cooperation for the South Caucasus, based in Tbilisi. On 5th September 2023, Ms. Meuwly arrived in Nepal as Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal.
